Mount Olympus

Declared in 1938, it was Greece's first national park, protecting the mountain that Greek mythology held to be the home of the twelve Olympian gods. Its Greek fir woods and rock walls — the Mytikas summit reaches 2,917 m — were described by Homer himself, and remain a place of pilgrimage both for mountaineers and for those seeking to touch the classical world. It has also been a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve since 1981.
