Declared in 1977, Queyras protects one of the highest permanently inhabited valleys in Europe, with villages above 2,000 metres that have kept for centuries a traditional stone and timber architecture adapted to the extreme mountain climate, including painted sundials on the house fronts, a craft tradition centuries old in the region and still alive today.
