Triglav

Slovenia's only national park takes its name from Mount Triglav (2,864 m), the highest mountain in the country and a national symbol that appears on its flag and coat of arms. Its core was protected as early as 1924, one of the first alpine reserves in Europe, but it was not widened into a full national park until 1961. In its valleys rises the Soča, turquoise from dissolved limestone, and the scene of heavy fighting in the First World War — the Isonzo front, which Hemingway portrayed in A Farewell to Arms.
