Voyageurs

Declared in 1975, Voyageurs takes its name from the voyageurs, French-Canadian fur traders who through the 18th and early 19th centuries travelled this complex network of lakes and islands in birchbark canoes to carry furs between Montreal and the interior of the continent, on routes that shaped much of the later border between Canada and the United States. Unlike most parks in the country, it is explored mainly by boat or canoe, with very few internal roads.
