Near Ras Mohammed
Unlike the reefs hugging the Hurghada coast, Careless Reef rises abruptly out of open water. The core is a coral plateau between 12 and 16 m from which two large pinnacles emerge, reaching almost to the surface. Being completely exposed, many centres only schedule it in calm seas, but when conditions allow it is rated a first-class dive.

Three coral pinnacles near Hurghada with vertical walls and a notable absence of tourist boats.
For decades guides fed the reef's moray eels, which became semi-tame and swam out in the open. Feeding wildlife is now banned under environmental regulations, but the moray population is still there and it is not unusual to come across several two-metre individuals on a single dive.
