Kona (night diving with manta rays)

Night feeding station
Depth: 8–15 mLevel: Open WaterAll year round
Spotted something wrong?

A night dive in which the lights of the boats and the divers concentrate plankton and, with it, reef manta rays that feed by barrel-rolling a few metres away. The divers stay still on the sandy bottom while the mantas pass overhead.

Depth

8–15 m

Recommended level

Open Water

Average visibility

20 m

The iconic night dive where lights draw plankton and up to a dozen reef manta rays come to feed above the divers.

Did you know?

It is one of the very few megafauna encounters considered practically guaranteed, and the mechanism is indirect: the animals are not baited; instead, the plankton they feed on is attracted. Kona's other speciality is blackwater diving, night dives in the open sea over seabeds hundreds of metres down.
