Auyuittuq

Declared in 1976, its name in Inuktitut means the land that never melts, after the Penny Ice Cap that crowns its territory. Set above the Arctic Circle on Baffin Island, it was one of the first national parks in the Canadian high Arctic and is still managed in close partnership with the Inuit community of Pangnirtung, whose certified local guides are compulsory for going into the park, both for safety from polar bears and out of respect for traditional Inuit land.
