Highlight
Closed for more than two decades by the Casamance separatist conflict, one of the longest-running in West Africa
Declared in 1970, Basse Casamance stayed practically closed and inaccessible for more than two decades because of the Casamance separatist conflict, one of the longest-running in West Africa, which began in 1982 and included the laying of landmines within and around the park itself, whose clearance has been an indispensable precondition for the gradual reopening of tourism in the region.
