Chaco

Declared in 1954, Chaco National Park protects forests of quebracho colorado, a tree whose wood is so dense and rot-resistant that it came to be worked intensively for railway sleepers and leather tanning through much of the 20th century, giving its name and its economic identity to the whole South American Gran Chaco region, today one of the most threatened dry forest biomes on the continent.
