Chiribiquete

Declared in 1989 and extended repeatedly up to 2018, Chiribiquete is the largest national park in Colombia and the largest rainforest national park in the world. Its isolated sandstone table mountains — tepuis of the Guiana Shield — hold over 70,000 rock paintings across hundreds of rock faces, some as much as 20,000 years old, depicting jaguars, hunting rituals and human figures, which earned it a mixed UNESCO World Heritage listing in 2018, natural and cultural at once. It is the land of indigenous peoples in voluntary isolation and its interior remains closed even to scientific fieldwork.
