Cuencas de Makgadikgadi

Declared in 1970, Makgadikgadi protects part of one of the largest salt-pan systems in the world, the remains of an inland lake that at its greatest extent, tens of thousands of years ago, rivalled the present Lake Victoria in size before drying out through climatic and tectonic change. Every year it is the setting of Africa's second largest land migration of mammals, when thousands of zebra cross the basin following the seasonal rains.
