Gobi Gurvansaikhan

Declared in 1993 and extended to its present size in 2000, it is the largest national park in Mongolia, at almost 27,000 km² along the northern edge of the Gobi. Its name means the three beauties of the Gobi, after three ranges that cross it. The park takes in the famous Bayanzag, known internationally as the Flaming Cliffs ever since the American explorer Roy Chapman Andrews found here in 1922 the first fossilised dinosaur eggs ever documented by science, a discovery that transformed the understanding of how these animals bred. It is also one of the last refuges of the genuinely wild Bactrian camel, genetically distinct from the domestic camel and listed as critically endangered.
