Highlight

The largest national park in Sumatra; it holds Indonesia's highest active volcano

Declared in 1999, it is the largest national park on the island of Sumatra and forms part of the Tropical Rainforest Heritage of Sumatra, inscribed by UNESCO in 2004. It protects Mount Kerinci, Indonesia's highest active volcano, and one of the most important surviving populations of Sumatran tiger on the island, a species listed as critically endangered through the deforestation that comes with oil palm plantations.
