Marakele

Declared in 1993, its name in Setswana means place of sanctuary, and its cliffs hold one of the largest breeding colonies of Cape vulture in the world, a species listed as critically endangered through accidental poisoning by baits meant for other predators and through growing demand for the bird's parts in traditional medicine in parts of southern Africa.
