Highlight

An isolated rocky plateau turned into the Noah's ark of Namibian conservation, with rhino and other reintroductions since the 1970s

Declared in 1972, Waterberg Plateau Park has served ever since as a Noah's ark for Namibian conservation, the starting point for numerous programmes reintroducing species — black and white rhino among them — to other reserves around the country, thanks to the natural protection the raised plateau affords, its cliffs acting as a barrier against both predators and poachers.
