Declared in 1962, Phu Kradueng protects a shoe-shaped sandstone plateau reachable only after a demanding 9 km climb, traditionally made with the help of local porters who carry visitors' luggage on bamboo poles. The park closes completely each year through the rainy season, between June and September, to let the plateau's vegetation recover naturally after the peak visitor period.
