Declared in 1980 and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1991, Ujung Kulon is the last refuge of the Javan rhinoceros, with fewer than 80 animals surviving anywhere in the world, all of them concentrated in this park alone — which makes it one of the most threatened large mammals on the planet, its entire world population confined to a single protected area.
