Wilsons Promontory

Declared in 1898, it is one of the oldest national parks in Australia and protects the southernmost point of the Australian landmass, a granite promontory that during the last ice age was connected by dry land to present-day Tasmania. Known locally as The Prom, it combines white sand beaches, temperate forest and coastal heath in a relatively compact area within reach of Melbourne, which has made it one of the most popular walking and camping destinations in the state of Victoria for more than a century.
