Declared in 1984 and co-managed with the Waanyi Aboriginal people, the traditional owners of the land, Boodjamulla protects a spectacular limestone gorge of intensely turquoise water deep in the arid interior of Queensland, a contrast with the surrounding landscape so marked that it has been likened to an oasis in the desert, fed by underground springs that flow steadily even through the region's severest droughts.
