Did you know?

It is not the original. The Christ of the Abyss was cast by Professor Guido Galletti in 1954 at the instigation of the Italian diver Duilio Marcante. The one at Key Largo is the third casting from Galletti's mould: it was commissioned by the Italian dive equipment manufacturer Egidio Cressi, who donated it to the Underwater Society of America. The second was placed in 1961 in the harbour of St George's, Grenada, in memory of those rescued from the Italian ship Bianca C.
