Declared in 1979 and a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve since 1977 — before it was even formally made a national park — Croajingolong protects one of the least altered stretches of coast in the whole of south-eastern Australia, where eucalypt forest, coastal heath and all but untouched estuaries run along more than 100 km of remote shoreline, far from the main tourist routes of Victoria.
