Jigme Dorji

Established in 1974 in memory of the third king of Bhutan, Jigme Dorji Wangchuck, and raised to national park status in 1993, it is the second largest in Bhutan and spans all three of the country's climatic tiers, from subtropical valleys to peaks above 7,300 metres. According to UNESCO it is the only park in the world where the habitats of Bengal tiger and snow leopard have been documented to overlap. It is also the only place in Bhutan where the country's four national symbols occur together: the cypress (tree), the blue poppy (flower), the raven (bird) and the takin (animal), a singular-looking goat-antelope held sacred in local Buddhist mythology.
