Declared in 1980, Lake Clark combines active volcanoes, glaciers and turquoise lakes with one of the finest opportunities in Alaska to watch coastal brown bears fishing wild salmon, in surroundings considerably less crowded than the better-known Katmai. It can only be reached by light aircraft or boat from Anchorage, with no road connection at all.
