Highlight

Scotland's first national park; Loch Lomond is the largest freshwater lake in Great Britain by surface area

Declared in 2002, it was Scotland's first national park. Loch Lomond, its principal loch, is the largest freshwater lake in Great Britain by surface area, and was immortalised in the traditional Scottish ballad 'The Bonnie Banks o' Loch Lomond', one of the best known Scottish folk songs internationally, whose words are thought to refer to a Jacobite soldier condemned after the rising of 1745.
