Highlight

With neighbouring Bandipur it forms one of the largest contiguous refuges for tiger and Asian elephant in southern India

Declared in 1955, Nagarhole forms with neighbouring Bandipur and the Mudumalai-Wayanad complex one of the largest contiguous blocks of protected habitat for tiger and Asian elephant in southern India, known collectively as the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve. Its artificial Kabini reservoirs, built in the middle of the 20th century, have paradoxically become one of the finest places to watch wildlife in the park through the dry season.
