Liwonde National Park

Declared in 1973, Liwonde suffered poaching so severe over the decades that by 2015 it had lost virtually all of its large predators. Since that year, joint management with the organisation African Parks has allowed the perimeter to be fenced, thousands of illegal snares removed, and lions, cheetahs and black rhinos successfully reintroduced, turning Liwonde into one of the fastest documented wildlife recoveries in southern Africa over the past decade.
