Ulu Temburong

Declared in 1991, it is frequently cited as the best preserved primary rainforest area on the whole island of Borneo, thanks in large part to Brunei's oil wealth, which has allowed the country to do without large-scale logging or agricultural clearance of its forests, unlike neighbouring Malaysia and Indonesia. Its canopy walkway, suspended more than 40 metres above the forest floor, allows the rainforest to be seen from an unusual perspective and has been key over recent decades in positioning Brunei as an ecotourism destination, a strategic turn away from its historic dependence on oil.
