Bokor

Declared in 1993, it protects a mountain plateau where French colonists built the Bokor Hill station in the 1920s, with a casino, a luxury hotel and a church, seeking to escape the tropical heat of the Cambodian coast. The station was abandoned during the Cambodian civil war and intermittently occupied by the Khmer Rouge for decades, leaving behind a group of ruined colonial buildings, today partly swallowed by mist and forest vegetation, which sit alongside the recent partial rebuilding of the area as a tourist destination.
