Katavi

Declared in 1974, Katavi is one of the most remote and least visited national parks in Tanzania, which has allowed it to preserve some of the largest documented hippopotamus concentrations in Africa through the dry season, when hundreds of animals crowd into the few permanent pools left in the bed of the river Katuma, producing fierce territorial disputes between males that can be watched at close range with hardly another safari vehicle around.
