Bako

Declared in 1957, it is the oldest national park in the Malaysian state of Sarawak, on the island of Borneo, and despite its small size it packs as many as seven distinct forest ecosystems into a compact area. It is one of the finest places in the world to watch the proboscis monkey with ease, a primate endemic to Borneo, recognisable by the huge fleshy nose of the adult males, thought to work both as an amplifier for their calls and as a sexual signal to females.
