Highlight

Spain's newest national park; forests of Spanish fir

Spain's newest national park, declared in 2021 in the province of Málaga. It is named after the old snow pits dug on its summits to store ice and snow for the Andalusian cities before modern refrigeration. Its greatest botanical treasure is the pinsapo, an endemic fir left over from forests that covered the Mediterranean millions of years ago and now reduced to a few sierras in southern Spain and northern Morocco.
