Highlight
The largest open peat bog in western Europe outside the Arctic, crossed by boardwalks
Declared in 1982, Store Mosse protects the largest open peat bog in western Europe outside the Arctic, an ecosystem built up over thousands of years that acts as an important natural carbon sink. Its raised boardwalks let visitors cross the wetland without damaging the delicate sphagnum, and the bird hide beside the main entrance has a lift, which is unusual in nature trail infrastructure.
