Threatened species by country
Fourteen of Mayotte's thirty threatened species are sharks and rays: almost half the list. The five critical cases are the giant clam, the tope, staghorn coral, the scalloped hammerhead and the hawksbill turtle. There is not a single bird or a single land reptile — all five turtles are marine — and the four mammals are three cetaceans and the dugong.
