Declared in 1952, it is the only national park in the United Kingdom centred mainly on a coastal landscape, with slate and sandstone cliffs hundreds of millions of years old followed by the Pembrokeshire Coast Path, a walking route of some 300 km. Its offshore islands, Skomer among them, hold one of the largest Atlantic puffin colonies in Wales.
