Tanzania's largest national park; a transition point between East and southern African wildlife
Declared in 1964 over the ground of a former game reserve, Ruaha is the largest national park in Tanzania and lies in a biogeographical transition zone where species typical of East Africa meet others more usual in southern Africa, such as the greater kudu and the oryx, producing one of the longest combined mammal lists of any African park. Its relative isolation keeps it among the least visited of Tanzania's great parks.
