Carnivore
Species that feed mainly on other animals.
What it means
Diet shapes much of an animal's anatomy: its dentition, the length of its gut, its eyesight and its hearing. A carnivore draws its energy from animal prey, and that spans everything from large predators that chase and bring down their quarry to scavengers living on what others leave, by way of many marine species that filter or ambush. In this catalogue the tag groups meat-eaters in the broad sense; for finer diets there are Insectivore, Piscivore and Detritivore.
