Sweden's first marine national park; its cold, deep water holds more marine species than any other coastal area in the country

Declared in 2009, Kosterhavet was Sweden's first exclusively marine national park. Its water, influenced by a deep submarine trench that lets cold North Sea currents in, supports the greatest diversity of marine species documented in any Swedish coastal area, including cold-water coral reefs of the genus Lophelia, normally associated with far greater ocean depths.
