- GeneralA voracious predator of the cod family, much sought after by anglers.
- It spawns in dense shoals between March and May, in water of 8 to 10 °C.
- The juveniles spend their first years among rocks and seaweed and do not move out to 40-100 m until they are three years old, at about 40 cm.
- It is told from its relatives by its large yellow eyes and its jutting lower jaw, which has no barbel.
