Threatened species by country
Jordan reaches the Red Sea along a single stretch of coast, and half of its thirty threatened species come from there: seven sharks and rays, the dugong, the giant clam and staghorn coral, the last two critically endangered. The other half is desert — Arabian oryx, Nubian ibex, two gazelles, the Egyptian spiny-tailed lizard — and the eight reptiles are the largest group on the list.
