Grassland

Plains ruled by grass: steppes, prairies, moorland and puna.

What it means

Where there is too little rain for forest and enough that it is not desert, grass takes over. These are open ecosystems with very few places to hide, and that has shaped their inhabitants: large herbivores that band together and run, predators that stalk or chase, and many birds that nest on the ground. Fire and grazing are part of how they work rather than an anomaly; suppress them entirely and a grassland usually turns to scrub.
